Welp, I'm back to reality. After spending a week on vacation in the Bahamas I am finally getting back into the groove of things. For whatever reason I have been struggling so hard to wake up since being back from vacation. It doesn't seem to matter what time I go to bed, my body is still in vacation mode!
We left for the Bahamas early Saturday morning and arrived by noon. When we got to the Nassau Airport there was a pumped up man greeting everyone as they got off the plane. I wish I had taken a video of him, he was an absolute riot! As we moved into Immigration there was a reggae band jamming out in the airport... I mean seriously, talk about the best greeting ever!
Once we passed through Immigration, we grabbed our bags and found our van to take us to the hotel. On the way to the hotel we stopped for groceries. Since my boyfriend's family has a timeshare in the Bahamas, we did some grocery shopping for the week. I was shocked at how Americanized the grocery store was, I felt like I was back in the U.S! I was happy to be able to pick up some of my favorite healthy foods to keep in for the week like Simply Chobani, rice cakes, bananas, spinach, oranges and peanut butter. After we finished our shopping we headed to Atlantis!
Our first full day in the Bahamas was spent in Nassau. It was raining in the morning so we decided to pack our bags and take a water taxi into town! As soon as we got off the boat, the sky cleared up and we were ready to explore! Below is one of my favorite shots of the Nassau. I love all of the fun, vibrant colors that they use, it reminds me of something you would see at Disney World!
After walking around Nassau we were hot, tired and hangry so we decided to head to a local restaurant recommended to us by our cab driver. When we arrived at Goldie's we we're greeted by Goldie himself who was the absolute man. He took us to the back of the restaurant and showed us where all of the conch from the restaurant comes from. He also peer pressed my boyfriend's dad to eat raw conch right out of the shell with him (I think I would have gagged!)
For lunch we all decided to be adventurous and try different types of conch. We ordered fried conch, conch fritters, grilled conch and raw conch salad! If you've never tried conch it is similar to calamari and definitely a must try in the Bahamas!
One of the highlights of our trip was definitely our snorkeling excursion with Island Time Charters! We were picked up at Atlantis by Captain Eugene Arthur and his first mate Brent. The two of them were absolutely hilarious, blasting 'Roxanne' and other classic jams as we drove out into the crystal clear waters. They took us to four different areas to snorkel and two gorgeous beaches to explore. We seriously had way too much fun!
The cherry on top of the entire day was swimming with wild sea turtles. We got so close we could touch them!
All in all, the vacation was everything a vacation should be - relaxing, fun and unforgettable. I still can't stop looking through all of the photos and envying myself a week ago! Until next time paradise :)
