Skinny Toll House Cookies

Let’s be real, when it comes to chocolate chip cookies, nobody does it quite like Toll House. Recently, I found myself staying in on a Friday night cuddled up in blankets, watching Christmas movies, when all of a sudden I had an intense craving for homemade chocolate chip cookies. So guess what I did? I made some! However, as a girl with lots of self discipline (and a great love for cookies) I decided to adapt the Original Nestle Toll House cookie recipe using some of my own favorite substitutions for low calorie baking. 

In my (humble) opinion, these cookies came out AMAZING. They contain less than half the amount of calories of a traditional toll house cookie without compromising that perfect chocolate chip cookie taste.

Skinny Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies

Makes 25-30 Cookies

What You’ll Need:
+ 1 1/4 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
+ 1/4 cup granulated sugar
+ 1/4 cup brown sugar
+ 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
+ 1/2 teaspoon salt
+ 4 packets Truvia (or add 1/3 cup sugar) 
+ 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
+ 1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce
+ 1/4 cup water
+ 2 tablespoons Earth Balance butter, melted (or 2 tbs oil of choice) 
+ 1/2 cup Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chips (or dairy-free chocolate chips)  

Tips:
If you do not have apple sauce on hand, feel free to use 2 eggs (omit water if using eggs). In addition, you may substitute oil or regular butter for Earth Balance butter. Calorie content is subject to change. 

Directions: 
1.) Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. 

2.) Place the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt and Truvia into a medium size bowl and mix well. Add in the vanilla, apple sauce and butter and stir.

3.) Wet hands under water and gather the dough into a ball, using the moisture from the water to adhere the dough.

4.) Once the dough has formed, add chocolate chips and mix into dough. 

5.) Roll dough into small balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. (If the dough appears too moist, place in the refrigerator for 10 minutes or so until firm)

6.)  Bake for 9-11 minutes until the cookies are slightly golden. Allow cookies to cool on wire racks to cool completely.
