Let's Talk Skin Care

When I eliminated processed foods containing preservatives and chemicals from my diet, I did the same for my skin care routine. While the skin is not technically considered an organ, it sure does act like one. The skin’s job (besides covering up our insides,) is to breath. As the skin breaths, it eliminates toxins from the body and absorbs new oxygen, acting like a sponge. In addition, it absorbs the chemicals found in conventional beauty products i.e. makeup products, lotions, cleansers, body washes, eye creams, shaving creams, exfoliators, deodorants and more. While chemicals are loosely monitored by cosmetic companies and the FDA, we do not know the long-term affects of using cosmetic chemicals on our bodies.

Since many of you have emailed me asking about my favorite beauty products, I have decided to share my daily skin care routine for clear, flawless skin!

Makeup Remover: Jojoba Oil After spending countless dollars on makeup remover, I decided to find a natural remover that was cheap and effective. After trying a few different products, my favorite was jojoba oil. Jojoba oil is wonderful because it closely resembles the skin’s natural oils and helps to regulate oil production. In addition, I found that this natural oil does the best job of removing make up while moisturizing the area around the eye, doubling as an eye cream.

Face Wash: 9 to 5 Cleansing Lotion from Lush My favorite face wash has to be Lush’s 9 to 5 cleanser. This cleansing lotion is designed for a clean and fresh feel. Made with almond oil and dove orchids, it is the perfect cleanser to use after a long day to remove any dirt or leftover make up.

Lightweight Moisturizer: Hibiscus Moisturizing Serum from CleverEarth Skincare This is a new product in my skin routine and I absolutely love it! I have been looking for a light moisturizer that won’t clog my pores and this is totally it! It feels fresh on the skin and you only need a tiny bit to get that light, fresh moisturized feel.

Heavy-Duty Moisturizer: Original Moisturizing Cream from Eucerin I love this heavy-duty moisturizer. I have been using Eucerin products for years and think they are great, especially if you live somewhere cold in the winter. I do not use this moisturizer all the time, usually just before bed a few days a week.

Cotton Pads I love cotton pads! I use them as a final wipe down of my face to make sure that I have removed all of the excess makeup and dirt after cleansing.

Just like changing your diet, changing your skin care routine takes time. I am aware that not all of these products are completely chemical free but I am working towards creating a completely chemical-free routine in time. If you have suggestions or products that you like, please share!
