Diet Versus Drugs

Many people are overly confident that pills and procedures can prevent disease. They spend thousands of dollars trying to find a solution to keep them healthy. However, Dr. Michael Greger states that most cholesterol, blood thinning and blood pressure drugs on the market only have about a 5% chance of benefit over 5 years. You see, doctors and drug companies oversell the benefits without mentioning how tiny the results actually are. In July 2014, a study was published in the Journal of Family Practice in which 198 patients with CAD or cardiovascular disease changed to a plant-based diet. The study had astonishing results and found that patients reduced their amount of risk by 60% in 4 years. In addition, 99.4% of people in the study avoided major cardiac events like death from a heart attack. (Click HERE to see the published study in the Journal of Family Practice.)

Cardiovascular disease remains the number one killer of men and woman in western civilization. If people could set aside their prescription drugs and work with a holistic doctor to change to a plant-based diet, cardiovascular disease could lose its spot as our #1 killer.

In the end, Hippocrates got it right all those years ago...“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”
